EMET Announces its Strong Opposition to the “21st Century Munich” Iranian Nuclear Deal
November 25, 2013 (Washington, DC) – The Endowment for Middle East Truth (EMET) announced its strong opposition to the “21st Century Munich Pact” that was brokered Saturday night between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the p5 plus one nations, including the United States, Russia, China, France, Great Britain and Germany, plus the European Union.
EMET registered its strong opposition to the recently announced deal between the Obama Administration and the Iranian mullahs. The deal gives Iran relief from crippling economic sanctions in return for almost nothing of significance.
The deal will leave Iran’s nuclear infrastructure almost totally intact. Iran keeps every one of its 19,000 centrifuges spinning, and may be able to continue to construct more. While caps will be placed on Iranian enrichment, it will do nothing to prevent Iran from expanding its stockpile of uranium, which means that Iran will emerge from the “interim deal” closer to its goal of a nuclear weapon.
In return, the Iranian terror supporting regime is given immediate economic relief from the economic sanctions that have left it so weakened as to be close to collapse. The treaty widens permissible trade in oil, gold and auto parts. It releases frozen Iranian assets to the tune of about $7 billion dollars, increasing Iran’s foreign-exchange reserves.
Worst of all, while any Iranian concessions are easily reversible since Iranian nuclear infrastructure will remain intact, Western concessions are likely irreversible. The existing sanctions regime will have been gutted with no realistic prospect of restoring those sanctions to previous levels. Analysts fear a “feeding frenzy” of foreign nations and multinational companies flocking to Iran seeking profits, now that threat of sanctions has been lifted.
The deal also sends a horrendous message to the domestic opposition of the Iranian mullahs. Contrary to Iranian President Rouhani’s reputation as a reformer, domestic repression and political executions have actually accelerated in Iran, with specific targeting of ethnic minorities, Christians and homosexuals. Iran has a horrendous human rights record against its own people, with thousands of Iranians either being executed or imprisoned for their political speech, their religion, their ethnic background, or their sexual preference.
In its annual Country Reports on Terrorism, the State Department has documented “a clear resurgence of Iran’s state sponsorship of terrorism” and that of “Tehran’s ally Hezbollah.” Iranian sponsored terrorists have targeted Americans abroad, including U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. Recently, the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps attempted to bomb a restaurant in Washington, DC. The Iranian leadership has continuously threatened Israel and Jews in general, in the most vile ways imaginable. It is also well-known that the Iranian regime already provides billions of dollars for Assad in Syria. There is every reason to believe that many of the billions of dollars in relief they receive from this nuclear deal will be sent to the Assad regime to continue the slaughter of Syrian civilians. About 150,000 have been killed so far.
This dangerous deal leaves this anti-American, anti-Semitic, anti-freedom terror regime as the major player in the Middle East, increases regional instability, and can be expected to increase Mideast nuclear proliferation.
“The deal that was announced today is both dangerous and disgraceful,” said Sarah Stern, President and Founder of EMET. She continued, “President Obama has, in one fell swoop, abandoned our true allies in the region to Iranian sponsored terrorist nuclear blackmail, and he has empowered an enemy, the Iranian regime, that has been at war with the United States since it seized our Embassy in 1979. Agreeing to this deal is irresponsible and foolish of President Obama and his advisors. It will destabilize the entire Middle East, and probably will lead to more war and bloodshed. This is disgraceful.”
